On July the 6th, the Commons Conservators invite you to a drop-in work party on the Nettlebed Commons. Earlier in the year tree felling has taken place on the commons and the wood that was not of interest was left on the forest floor. The aim for the volunteering day is to clear up as much of the brushwood leftover from tree cutting earlier on the commons. Instead of having brushwood lying around, we will build habitat piles so that the wildlife on our commons can have some refuge.

Place to meet: In the beech forest in Nettlebed Common Wood (See map), where the marked footpath crosses the track. Indicated on the map as blue square.

We aim to work between 10:00 and 12:30 and you are welcome to join at any time that suits you. We aim to have the majority of the work done by 12:30. If you just want to join in for a few minutes rather than the whole session, you are just as welcome.

What to bring: Gardening Gloves, Loppers and/or small bow saw. Drinks and a snack.

Wear old clothes and if you intend to dive into the brushwood, consider safety glasses to protect your eyes and a cap or hat.

Who can help: Anybody, but children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by adults.

Information: write an e-mail to volunteers@nettlebed.net with your question.

The work party is organised by “Team Nettlebed”, a small group of volunteers that helps maintaining the interesting areas of the commons. The team operates on volunteering only and could do with some extra help from people that can spare some time. There are no restrictions and you can come as often or few times as you like. We normally organise short sessions on Sunday afternoons, but we can change or vary the day and time if that suits others.
