Help for a carer please

A member of the village who is caring for her husband would be most grateful for support by having someone to sit with him so that she can go out. The request is for two mornings a week for three hours each morning, preferably on Wednesdays and Fridays. If you are able to offer this help on either a paid or voluntary basis, please call Anne Leigh on ‭01491 641394....

How to deal with parking fines – Citizens Advice

There can be few experiences as disheartening and utterly deflating as floating back to your car after some marvellously therapeutic shopping trip, laden with parcels and shopping bags, to find a black and yellow parking notification attached to your windscreen, like some enormous striped stinging hornet - and certainly having a stinging effect on your wallet too. It could spoil anyone’s day - but don't let it! Don't panic, don’t curse and don't waste any time before getting to grips with the problem.  The Citizens Advice website has a useful section which you should consult: https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/law-and-courts/parking-tickets/  If you think the ticket was justified (and let’s face it, some of them are), one option is to pay the fine right away, thus getting a substantial discount: 50% if you pay a Penalty Charge Notice or Excess Charge Notice within 14 days 40-60% if you pay a Parking Charge Notice within 14 days If you think that you were parked correctly and within the rules, or there were mitigating...

Let’s all clear snow

The recent snow caused a few problems. The best way to avoid this is to clear the snow as soon as it falls and before it gets compacted by people and vehicles. I am suggesting that we all clear snow outside our own properties and the pavements outside the homes of those not able to do it themselves. Snow shovels make it a lot easier and are available from £5 in shops or online - see snow shovels on Amazon It is often said that there is a risk of being sued if you clear snow and then somebody falls. This is NOT true provided your are sensible (as for most things in life!). See Government advice on snow clearing Jim McWhirter 01491 641609, jimhmcw@me.com...
