Have you got information about Smillies Farm, Nettlebed?

Smillies Farm, Nettlebed. I’m looking for any information, photos or memories anyone might have of the R. Smillie and Sons farm at Manor Farm, Nettlebed adjacent to the church. The farm was the dairy for the village until the 1970’s and delivered milk around the village and possibly to surrounding areas. I'd love to know if anyone remembers the farmer, the farm as it ran in those days, or anything else at all.....! many thanks Patrick. pthamory@gmail.com ...

Does anyone know Fiona Gordon?

Good morning, My name is Bill Wilber and I'm writing  to see if you might help me with contact information for Annie Gordon; or more likely her daughter, Fiona Gordon who used to own the Small House across from the White Hart hotel in Nettlebed.      My high school crew team (Washington-Lee High School)  stayed at Annie's house for two weeks in late June and early July 1969 while we were training and competing at the Henley Regatta for the Princess Elizabeth Cup.   Annie, Fiona and a couple of Fiona's  friends fed us and otherwise  took good care of us those two weeks and I remember telling Fiona at the end or our trip  that if she ever had interest in visiting the United States to see Washington DC and  vicinity, we'd be happy to host her.    That was 50 years ago, and I'm now coordinating the 50th reunion of our high school class' and  thought it would be wonderful if...

Nettlebed & District Commons Conservators awarded conservation grants

Nettlebed & District Conservators (NDCC) have been awarded grants totalling £31,600 for new conservation and landscape improvement projects on Peppard, Kingwood and Nettlebed Commons. Nettlebed & District Commons total 560 acres and were established as common land by Robert Fleming in 1906. Nowadays, the Commons are mostly dominated by secondary woodland, and the main focus of NDCC’s projects will be to open up selected areas by creating woodland rides and glades, thereby encouraging new natural habitats, increasing biodiversity, and improving access for recreation and leisure pursuits. The Commons are widely used, not only by people from Rotherfield Peppard and Nettlebed, but also from neighbouring parishes and from Henley and Reading. The awards, which were announced in October, are strictly dedicated to the new conservation measures defined in NDCC’s funding application and cannot be assigned to annual operating expenditures or ongoing general Commons maintenance. The funded conservation work will be supported by NDCC’s volunteer work parties. The Commons are ecologically important, Peppard and Kingwood containing...

Nettlebed school performance at end of key stage 2 in 2018

As you may have seen in the national press, on Friday the Department For Education released the performance data for the country from the last school year (link enclosed below). I am extremely pleased to say that Nettlebed school achieved outstandingly well in our results last year. Out of 304 schools in Oxfordshire, we are in the top 20 for many of the measurements available. My personal favourites are our top score for the whole of Oxfordshire in our SATs results for Maths, and also the top average combined score across maths, writing and reading. The results also show we scored very highly in progress, which is one of the key indicators for how effectively a school is performing. These results are something that everyone connected with the school should be incredibly proud of, from pupils to parents, and especially the staff. Huge congratulations to everyone involved. Matt Tebbutt Chair of Governors - Nettlebed Community School Oxfordshire school performance...
