Help wanted with cricket teas

Henley Cricket Club 3rd X1 play their home matches at Nettlebed CC. They would like someone to help with laying out their teas and clearing away afterwards. The teas are pre-prepared and brought to the ground. Matches are generally on alternate Saturdays with the first match on May 5th and the last on August 26th. Help is required between 3.30 and 5.30 on those match days  and the club will pay £20 for the two hour session. We have previously been helped (over the past 5 years) by a number of teenage school girls but we are open to anyone who is willing to help us out. Ideally we need someone of a confident and sunny disposition. If you are interested please contact Henley CC Chairman Brian Kenworthy. His e-mail address is brian@tmb-events.com or you can reach him on 07768 811196....

There are no SODC elections in May 2018

Unlike other parts of the county, SODC is not having an election on 3 May 2018, so won’t be sending out any voting cards or postal votes to residents in our district. However we have found that as we are receiving a number of queries from electors regarding the elections that we would proactively take steps to raise elector awareness.   Kind regards,  Elections Team South Oxfordshire & Vale of White Horse District Councils 135 Eastern Avenue, Milton Park, Milton, Abingdon OX14 4SB  01235 422528 http://www.southoxon.gov.uk/services-and-advice/local-democracy elections@southandvale.gov.uk ...

How to avoid scams – a close shave!

A member of the village had a narrow escape yesterday:  "I reported an internet connection problem to BT. Later on I had a call from BT Operations offering £204.63 as a goodwill gesture for poor internet reception.  It sounded genuine as they knew I had contacted BT earlier on in the day and had all the information about my husband's name and correct address, etc. and  and then asked for his debit card details to which the repayment should be made. "The caller became quite aggressive when I refused and after a lot of repeated haranguing, said that if I did not agree they would disconnect our internet connection immediately and then hung up. I called BT who confirmed the call was a scam.  It was very unpleasant" You can get regular alerts about this and many other safety and security issues by signing up to Thames Valley Alert at https://www.thamesvalleyalert.co.uk who give the following advice: Protection Advice:  1.
