Thank you for your email. I have recently become aware that there is a problem in Nettlebed with the Post Office and do appreciate how important the facility is.
You may have heard a recent Government announcement on additional investment in the Post Office network. This may be timely and I will need to check the detail. However the problem may not be on the Post Office or Government side but rather issues within Malthouse Garage.
Until I have the local detail I cannot say more. I have a meeting with the Regional Manager for the Post Office in the diary for early in the New Year and will, of course, discuss this among other things.

Dear Residents,
You may, or may not, be aware that notification has been received from POST OFFICE LIMITED of the closure of the Post Office facility by the present tenant MRH (GB) Ltd (Malthouse Petroleum) at the end of the February 2018. The reason given by MRH(Ltd) is that, quote,” we have been unable to place the appropriate levels of insurance for the cash handling risk at the site”.
As you are aware this Post Office provides an invaluable service for Nettlebed and the local villages. We’d like to suggest that as many residents as possible individually write to:

My father, Bruno Reiter, lived in Nettlebed for many years (two decades?).
Last week, his wife, Sirkka, passed away at her home in Finland.
I know that Sirkka was well appreciated by people in the village. Among other charitable activities I know she gave comfort to patients and elderly persons with foot massage, pedicure and other treatments.
I write to you in case you know people in Nettlebed who remember Sirkka. I would like to contact them to get a better idea of Sirkka's activities in the village so I can include brief words in my eulogy at the funeral, which will be in the New Year.

The recent snow caused a few problems. The best way to avoid this is to clear the snow as soon as it falls and before it gets compacted by people and vehicles. I am suggesting that we all clear snow outside our own properties and the pavements outside the homes of those not able to do it themselves. Snow shovels make it a lot easier and are available from £5 in shops or online - see snow shovels on Amazon
It is often said that there is a risk of being sued if you clear snow and then somebody falls. This is NOT true provided your are sensible (as for most things in life!). See Government advice on snow clearing

Rural crime update from Assistant Chief Constable Nikki Ross
Reports of rural crime in the Thames Valley have increased by five percent between October 2016 and September 2017.
I would like to reassure members of our rural communities of my commitment to investigating reports of rural crime. We rely on information from our local communities and take such reports very seriously. Incidents are robustly investigated by our local policing teams who have dedicated Rural Crime and Wildlife Officers based across the Thames Valley.
Rural crime can take many different forms including burglary, robbery, theft, criminal damage, fly tipping, poaching and hare coursing. We are continuing to work with local residents, businesses and partners to raise awareness of crime prevention techniques while developing problem solving solutions to tackle rural crime.
There are often fewer witnesses to rural crimes and greater opportunities for criminals to target isolated properties and businesses. The impact of these crimes can also be greater, with people feeling more vulnerable...
Our waste collection crews are out and about emptying bins where they can, although most side streets are too dangerous for their 26 tonne trucks.
If it is safe to do so, please put your bins out as normal. If the bins in your street aren't emptied on your normal collection day, please leave them out for three days and we will try and come back to get them. If we haven't managed to get back to you in three days, bring your bins back in and we will come and get them next time they're due. If this is the case, we will collect extra waste left out next to your bin next time around.
