On Sunday 11 November 2018, Nettlebed and District Branch Royal British Legion will join the Nation and host a series of events to commemorate and mark the end of World War 1, one hundred years ago, and to remember those local men who gave their lives for their Country.
6.00 am Battles Over – Sleep in Peace, now the battle’s over. Before dawn has broken the air will be filled with the sound of a lone piper. Battle’s O’er. A traditional air played by pipers after a battle. Heralding the start of the day’s commemorations.
10.30 am The Village are invited to join in a parade of the Branch Standard starting from the Bus Shelter to St Bartholomew’s Church. The Remembrance Day Service will begin outside the Church at the Lytch Gate, the Village War memorial,...

The Governing Body of Nettlebed Community School is seeking new members from within the community to assist us in driving our 'outstanding' school forward. We are particularly interested to appoint people with an educational background, however this is NOT a necessity. We just want someone who cares about our amazing village and the people within it.
School governors act as the executive board for a school, working alongside the Head Teacher to develop the school vision and strategy for continuous improvement. You will gain valuable experience, as well as the opportunity to shape the school experience. The Governing Body also support the school in a range of activities including school trips, performances and within the classroom. All you need to do is volunteer your time; full training will be offered to support you in your new role. Unfortunately parents who have children at the school are unable to apply as all parent governor positions are already taken.

FREE VEGETABLES FROM OUR ALLOTMENTS
Although we are at the end of the season, we still have some surplus vegetables from the allotments. These can now be taken free from our vegetable cart by the footpath at the side of the allotments.
Note; Free vegetables are from the cart only: please do not take vegetables from elsewhere, or go onto the allotments.

Extra Garden Waste Collection:
South Oxfordshire District Council is again giving those who are part of the paid-for service the opportunity to put out the equivalent of one extra bin’s worth of garden waste (around three large 80 litre bin bags) on Tuesday 23rd October in Nettlebed.
Residents should leave their extra garden waste out in bin liners or sacks beside their brown bins on their usual collection day during these weeks. Trade waste bags will not be accepted. However you can re-use old compost bags.
The garden waste is taken to a recycling plant in Oxfordshire where it is used to make compost, which goes to local farmers, allotment holders and an annual compost giveaway.
However, there are increasing reports that the garden waste is being contaminated with non-compostable items such as plant pots, plastic bags and bottles - please be careful about what goes into the extra sacks and bags.
