Garden Waste Collections Suspended

Message to Garden Waste customers from South Oxfordshire District Council 2 August 2021 Dear Garden Waste customers, We have taken the difficult decision to suspend our garden waste collections. As you may already be aware, waste collection services right across the country have been suffering from disruption over the past few weeks. This has been the case in Vale of White Horse too. The national and local disruption is due to the ongoing issues of a shortage of HGV drivers, as a result of the pandemic and Brexit, who are needed to drive our waste collection vehicles. We also have a number of waste collection staff who are required to self-isolate by the government’s Track and Trace system. The situation does not look likely to improve in the next few weeks and so with a heavy heart we have decided to suspend the garden waste service for a month to allow the crews to prioritise food waste, recycling and general waste collections. Clean and shiny street signs

Cllr. Geoff Bond (Nettlebed PC), Cllr. Freddie van Mierlo (OCC) and Cllr. Jo Robb (SODC) spent Sunday afternoon cleaning some of the dirty street signs in Nettlebed. What a difference their efforts have made! Temporary Traffic Regulation Notice – S14 Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 Temporary Road Closure and “No Waiting” restriction at Nettlebed, A4130 High Street In the interests of public safety, it will be necessary for Oxfordshire County Council to close the road and impose a ‘No Waiting’ restriction as detailed above to facilitate carriageway resurfacing and re lining. A temporary Notice is being made to implement the temporary closure and will operate from 12 July 2021 at 20:00. The anticipated completion date is 13 July 2021 at 06:00. Sign Cleaning – volunteers needed

Nettlebed Parish Council have been offered the use of sign cleaning equipment. It’s fairly basic – a long-handled brush with two heads (one like a cloth, the other a brush), it will reach the highways road signs.  There is also a back-pack style water carrier (the type designed for spraying weed-killer). Only the signs alongside 30mph unclassified roads can be cleaned, but we can clean both highways signs eg. speed limit signs or warning signs and information signs eg. Village Hall (directional sign) and street names. It would be great to get 6 or more volunteers to share the load over the next few weeks - it can be done at a time that suits you. If you’re willing to clean some of the signs in the village, please contact the Parish Clerk either by phone or email – we may be able to get the equipment in time for the Litter Pick this Saturday! Ist Nettlebed Brownies ( Founded in 1969)  Nettlebed  Brownies have started their meetings again. The lovely weather has made meeting outside a real  bonus. We are working on the Anglia Buzz Challenge Badge consisting of six themes, our aim is to have completed this by the end of the Term.  We currently have spaces  for girls aged between 7 and 10 years of age. Nettlebed Parish Council has a vacancy for a Parish Councillor. Do you want to make a positive difference in our village? Would you like to influence decisions that affect your community? You need to be willing to give up some of your time. How much depends on you and your commitment to work for your community without being paid. Parish Council meets once a month (except August & December) usually on the first Tuesday of the month at the Village Club. Meetings normally last around 1-2 hours. You must be 18 or over, an elector and have been a resident or worked within 3 mils of the Parish for the last year.
