Cllr. Geoff Bond (Nettlebed PC), Cllr. Freddie van Mierlo (OCC) and Cllr. Jo Robb (SODC) spent Sunday afternoon cleaning some of the dirty street signs in Nettlebed. What a difference their efforts have made!
If you have some time and would like to do something to benefit the community, please contact parish.clerk@nettlebed-pc.org.uk / 07554 810 736 - there are lots of signs left to do and we have the kit for a couple more weeks.
Before cleaning - it's really filthy! :(
After cleaning - super-clean and shiny :)
Great team work!
Cllr. Freddie van Mierlo is up for a challenge!

Nettlebed Parish Council have been offered the use of sign cleaning equipment. It’s fairly basic – a long-handled brush with two heads (one like a cloth, the other a brush), it will reach the highways road signs. There is also a back-pack style water carrier (the type designed for spraying weed-killer).
Only the signs alongside 30mph unclassified roads can be cleaned, but we can clean both highways signs eg. speed limit signs or warning signs and information signs eg. Village Hall (directional sign) and street names.
It would be great to get 6 or more volunteers to share the load over the next few weeks - it can be done at a time that suits you.
If you’re willing to clean some of the signs in the village, please contact the Parish Clerk either by phone or email – we may be able to get the equipment in time for the Litter Pick this Saturday!

Ist Nettlebed Brownies ( Founded in 1969)
Nettlebed Brownies have started their meetings again. The lovely weather has made meeting outside a real bonus. We are working on the Anglia Buzz Challenge Badge consisting of six themes, our aim is to have completed this by the end of the Term.
We currently have spaces for girls aged between 7 and 10 years of age. So if there are any families with girls who might be interested in joining Nettlebed Brownies more information can be found on the Girlguiding UK website https://www.girlguiding.org.uk/information-for-parents/register-your-daughter/
"Brownies is about trying new things that teach girls aged seven to 10 about themselves, their community and their world. Brownies introduces girls to a world of new opportunities, challenges and fun. They get together with their friends at regular meetings where they learn new hobbies, get creative, develop skills and have outdoor adventures. As well as trying activities in their meetings, girls choose from interest badges related to things they want to know more about".

With residents help 20mph could be recognised as the speed limit through Nettlebed.
Nettlebed Parish Councillors will be distributing ‘20’s Plenty’ wheelie bin stickers to homes along the High Street and Watlington Street in an effort to help reduce the speed of traffic coming through the village. If you are delivered a sticker and do not want it (or don’t have a wheelie bin), would you please contact the Parish Clerk and we can arrange for it to be collected.
IN BRITISH SOCIAL ATTITUDES SURVEYS THREE QUARTERS OF PEOPLE SAY 20MPH IS THE RIGHT LIMIT FOR MOST LOCAL ROADS. IT IS BEST PRACTICE FOR HOME STREETS, TOWN CENTRES, SHOPPING AREAS AND WHERE PEOPLE WORK OR LEARN.*
Oxfordshire County Council decided in December 2020 to support 20mph in Oxfordshire – they are now working on the strategy, plans and timing to implement this.
A leader, yet to be appointed, will direct the initiative and create a project group which includes stakeholders such as 20’s Plenty...
REPAIRS TO THE WETPOUR SURFACE WILL BE CARRIED OUT ON FRIDAY 23RD APRIL.
We appreciate that as the weather is so lovely, this is disappointing news, however the work needs to be done as the annual RosPA inspection reported this as a potential trip hazard - so please bear with us and let's hope there are many more sunny days ahead and everyone can play safely.
Many thanks for your understanding.
